The verb – Temjestiæ

The verb represents a word that names an action, activity, existence or posession. In Hujdiš all the verbs in use are going to be conjugated. In consequence, we have to conjugate them as regular or irregular verbs.

Regular Verbs

There are consonant ending verbs in their infinitive form, or vowel ending verbs in their infinitive form.

Ex:          Allahan( to understand) – consonant ending verb

Balka( to become) – vowel ending verb

To conjugate them properly we have to make some adjustments.

InfinitiveRadical + -urConjugated verb-Present tense
AllahanAllahan + -urAllahanur
BalkaBalk- + -urBalkur

Once conjugated to present , future, or past tense the form is stable and doesn’t change in matter of singular/plural form or pronoun gender.  Let’s take these two examples and see what happens through different conjugations:

TranslationInfinitivePresent tensePast tensePast participleFuture
understandallahanallahanurallahanurtaäkk allahanurtšjar allahan
becomebalkabalkurbalkurtaäkk balkurtšjar balka

As you can see, for the participle past tense we had to use an auxiliary verb, the verb ‘’äkk’’(to have) at its infinitive form; the future is also formed with an auxiliary verb ‘’šjar’’(to wish) in its infinitive form followed by the infinitive form of the verb in cause.  No matter the pronoun, these conjugations are stable and they are staying the same.

Irregular verbs

Where we cannot respect the rule of regular verbs, we have the irregular ones. Allthough they are called irregular the rule in action is allmost a pattern:

TranslationInfinitivePresent tensePast tensePast ParticipleFuture
To beVékVejakÄkk væktŠjar vei
To haveÄkkÄkkeÄkkakÄkk äkktaŠjar äkk
To doLökLakÄkk laktaŠjar lei
To comeHyrHyreHyrakÄkk hyrtaŠjar hyr

In this category we also have the defective verb ‘’Uorösti’’ ( Prohibit). This verb is used in its inflexible form.

Another irregular verb is the modal verb ‘’Moj’’(could). It is used as an auxiliary verb in its fixed form.
